How I Became a Bully?
In the early years of high school, I led a rather ordinary
life as an average student. I had never thought about it before, but one day I
witnessed how everything could change. That day marked the moment I discovered
the dark side within me.
My name is Can, a freshman in high school. In the initial
days of school, I didn't draw much attention. However, over time, a desire to
belong to a specific group within my social circle started growing inside me.
This group consisted of the popular students at school, and becoming a part of
it would make me more appealing. This thought sparked a conflict between
goodness and darkness within me.
Initially, I just tried to be like them. I followed fashion,
changed my language to sound sharper, and began to belittle others. After a
while, I decided I needed to take more steps to be accepted by them. And that's
when the dark side within me started to emerge.
I adopted the role of a bully. I became ruthless towards my
friends, started basing my humor on demeaning others. I became indifferent to
people's feelings. But deep down, I knew that this transformation was wrong.
However, my ambition for popularity couldn't stop me.
One day, I encountered an old friend I hadn't seen in a long
time, Ayşe. When I saw the disappointment in her face, something inside me
shattered. That moment, I understood the importance of true friendship and the
heart of human beings. I realized that what I had lost for the sake of
popularity was actually the most valuable thing.
I talked to Ayşe and apologized. I decided to suppress the
dark side within me. The ambition for popularity couldn't hold me back any
longer. I turned away from the wrong paths brought by the desire for popularity
and decided to focus on true values. The most crucial thing I learned
throughout this process was that the goodness within people should not be lost
for the sake of popularity.
Towards the end of my high school life, I accepted the
change and reverted to my old self. I rebuilt our friendship with Ayşe and
understood the value of genuine relationships. Steering away from the dark
paths of bullying had made me a better person. By the end of my high school
life, I grasped that true happiness lies not in fake popularity but in sincere
relationships. This story narrates how a bully can change and emphasizes the
importance of discovering internal goodness."
